Simple Water Saver
A great way to save water when dry camping or anytime is to use the "Foam Pump", soap dispenser, this dispenser takes 4 tablespoons of liquid hand soap and half a cup of water. Pump the dispenser twice to create a nice palm size ball of soapy foam into your dry hands. Lather and clean your hands without any additional water as the foam provides all the moisture needed. Rinse and towel dry and you save more than a third of the water you would normally consume for this task.
Using the Foam Pump for showering offers incredible water saving, so much so that if you don't normally shower when dry camping because of water rationing you might now. Try these steps before heading off on your next outing; If you don't have an accurate water tank sensor that will indicate water consumed, fill your tank to overflow the inlet. Fire up the hot water tank and when ready don't turn on the shower water yet for adjustment unless you have a no-leak/drip showerhead. Lather your entire body using the foam; now adjust the water and rinse. Towel dry and refill the water tank to overflow the inlet using a one or two gallon container. Bet you only used between 1 to 1-1/2 gallons of water, a family of four can each shower once during a four-day outing and only consume upwards of 6 gallons of water. Imagine how much nicer everyone will smell on the next trip.
Washing your hair is still the biggest water consumer so avoid it until you stop and hook up on longer road trips.
